How to calculate a percentage
A percentage is a number out of 100. To turn marks into a percentage, divide the marks you got by the total marks and multiply by 100:
percentage = (marks obtained ÷ total marks) × 100
For example, 842 marks out of 1,100 is 842 ÷ 1,100 × 100 = 76.55%.
The four calculators on this page
- Marks. Your percentage, with the usual board grade and division for that percentage.
- X% of a number. Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. 15% of 2,400 is 360.
- What percent. Divide the first number by the second and multiply by 100. 45 is 25% of 180.
- Increase or decrease. Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. A salary that goes from 50,000 to 57,500 has risen by 15%.
Divisions and grades
Many boards in Pakistan use bands like these: A1 for 80% and above, A for 70 to 79, B for 60 to 69, C for 50 to 59, D for 40 to 49 and E for 33 to 39. The old divisions are first (60% and above), second (45 to 59) and third (33 to 44). These bands change from board to board and over the years, so treat the result as a guide and check your own result card.
