How to use mock tests well

A mock test is practice for the real thing. Do it like an exam: no phone, no notes, one sitting. The timer gives you one minute for each question, which is close to what most job tests allow. Turn on negative marking if your target test has it, because it changes how you should guess.

  • Start short. Take a 10-question test to warm up, then move to 30 or 50 as you improve.
  • Read the answers. After handing in, go through every wrong or skipped question. Write the fact in a notebook and revise it the next day.
  • Follow the weak topics. The list of topics to revise shows where you lost marks. Take another test on the same subject after studying them.
  • Repeat. Every test is made of random questions, so taking the same subject again gives a new set.
